Bio

Born and raised in Iowa, Joseph Hogue graduated from Iowa State University after serving in the Marine Corps. He worked in corporate finance and real estate before starting a career in investment analysis. He has appeared on Bloomberg and CNBC and led a team of equity analysts for a venture capital research firm. He holds a master’s degree in business and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Joseph left the corporate world in 2014 to build his online businesses, first through creating websites and later through his YouTube channel, Let’s Talk Money. He’s since grown the community to over 550,000 and reaches more than 1.8 million people a month through the blogs, YouTube and a weekly market newsletter.

1. What is one fun fact about you that not that many people know?

I live in Medellin Colombia.

2. Who inspires you the most and why?

I’d have to say my son and daughter and, and not really in the sense that you think of people that inspire you for what they’ve done. I love them to death, but they haven’t done anything right now. But they motivate me to be a better person.

4. What is one actionable tip or piece of advice that you can tell our moms out there to help them on their financial independence journey?

Start with your financial goal, something that really motivates you to take action. You want to make those goals real, right. Build a story in your head about what do you wanna do with that money. What is life like in retirement? If one of your goals is for your children’s education, what’s it going to feel like when they walk across that stage at their college graduation.
